Monaco a place of inspiration
The decapitated head of Medusa continues to retain its power, manifesting control over both life and death. In the
Metamorphoses, the undead gaze of Medusa causes sea plants to harden over the water, preserving life below, an incessant
natural cycle. Furthermore, by Perseus’s command, the great Atlas is turned into a mountain teeming with plant life, continuing
the duality of death and rebirth.
With the mounting of Medusa’s head on Athena’s aegis, Medusa’s power has been fully insinuated into Zeus’s pantheon. She is
no longer a symbol of Mother Earth. Instead, she becomes a symbol of Athena’s fierce military might, instilling fear in any
opponent to Athena’s will. Even in contemporary pop culture, Medusa has largely become synonymous with female rage.
Medusa’s petrifying image is a readily recognizable feature in popular culture. Medusa has appeared in various novels, including
video games, movies, cartoons, and books. Notably, the designer Versace’s logo is represented by Medusa’s head. It was
chosen because it represents beauty, art, and philosophy.
In art, Medusa is a powerful symbol and a source of inspiration across all forms of art, books, movies, and even video games. As
a symbol, Medusa’s head appears in some regional emblems. One example is the flag and badge of Sicily and the three-legged
Placing Medusa in the center signifies the protection of the goddess Athena. As previously mentioned, Athena uses the image a
Gorgon on her shield. Another example is the crest of the town of Dolní Dvořiště in the Czech Republic.
This translation emphasizes the cultural and artistic impact of Medusa, particularly relevant to artists and those who draw
inspiration from mythological symbols.
My inspiration to create this unique piece titled “ Medusa Purple” was created in 2024 I was inspired by animals as a
representation of power.
This masterpiece of art it makes me reflect of the power woman hold, Gorgons were female monsters who turned those who
looked directly into their eyes into stone. Medusa, the most famous among them, was decapitated by Perseus, who used her
head as a shield. In Western culture, powerful women have historically been imagined as threats to male conquest and control.
Medusa herself has long been a target for those who seek to demonize female authority Medusa could have been a very
prototypical goddess of a matriarchal society.
Her hair of snakes and reptilian skin symbolize the natural cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. Snakes are used because of their
shedding of skin and their rebirth into a new form.”My main piece is named “Medusa Purple”. It is part of a 12-piece animal
collection.
I look forward to sharing more of my art and experience with you.
